Slippery Elm Bark (Ulmus rubra)
Slippery Elm [ Ulmus Rubra] Red Elm, Indian Elm, is native to America, Canada and the Caribbean. This herb is antitussive, anti-inflammatory as it possess antioxidants, B vitamins, calcium, zinc, iron, manganese, selenium etc. The inner bark is a demulcent and it contains chemical that can increase mucous secretion. Many native People uses it to heal the mucus membrain of the stomach when ever these symptoms exists : cough, sore throat, upper respiratory ailments, stomach burn from acid reflux, Gerd, stomach ulcer, colic or intestinal problem such as inflammatory bowel diseases (Crohn) IBS. This bark contain thick mucilage that the human digestive track is not able to break down and for this reason the thick mucilage remains as a coating that helps to improve the lining of the stomach/intestine. Slippery Elm is also used against irritation of the urinary track, bladder/urinary track infection, as a laxitive, some people use it to expel tape worm from the intestine.
Preparation
1,Add the inner bark/ powder to warm water and allow to set until the liquid becomes thick or mucilage extract 2, Boil bark/powder in water until liquid become thick or mucilage extract. Strain liquid put to cool and injest required amout.
